Photographs of Federal Penitentiaries

The National Parole Board has assembled a series of digital photographs that offers a visual montage of maximum, medium and minimum-security federal penitentiaries in each of the five regions - Atlantic, Ontario, Pacific, Prairies and Quebec.

These colour photographs show the entrances into the prison compound from the highway, parking lots, main entrance into the penitentiary, locker facilities to store personal belongings, waiting rooms and the parole hearing rooms. These photos will offer victims and other observers a visual appreciation of what they will see and what they can expect when they enter a federal penitentiary to attend parole hearings.

Note: All pictures may not necessarily illustrate the same images as there are differences between various penitentiaries. Routines and procedures may vary depending on the age of the facility, its design and its security level. (Minimum-security penitentiaries, for example, will not have an enclosed main entrance but will have a designated building where visitors should go to sign in or seek information.)
